Your watching is about to get kicked up a notch!
Okay, so maybe it’s not actual jailbreaking, but it will let you use Netflix to its fullest potential! The streaming service’s famously specific genre categories are, frankly, amazing. “Emotional TV Dramas with a Strong Female Lead” is usually the number one suggestion for me on the site, followed closely by “Witty TV Shows,” which is to say that Netflix usually does know best.
But what if you could work around their programming and algorithms and see everything that Netflix has to offer?
Netflix’s spot-on profiling of our watch habits, while generally helpful when searching for new content, can also limit what you can find in the Netflix library. The algorithm prioritizes content similar to things you’ve already watched over content that differs from your usual choices. While that’s an effective system most of the time, sometimes you want to step outside of your comfort zone and see what else is out there! What if you’re missing out on something great because you haven’t watched anything like it on Netflix yet?
Then you’re in luck, because some good Samaritan at OgresCrypt.com (literally, that’s all the information that there is) compiled a list of the access codes to browse all of the possible Netflix genres (and sub-genres and sub-sub-genres).
Do you feel like watching a critically acclaimed sentimental independent drama? Because now you can, by entering the genre code “3273” to the end of standard Netflix browse URL (http://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/).
All the Choices
Now, if you were to choose that particular category, only Good Will Hunting would appear, but there are literally thousands of options. Want to watch “Foreign LGBT Movies?” Code 8243. “Gritty Showbiz Movies?” 1982. “Satanic Stories from the 1980s?” Code 4856. Something called “Stunts and General Mayhem” (which is where the Jackass movies live)? 3050.
